Principal's Welcome

Fisk Street PSThank you for visiting the Fisk Street Primary School website. We hope that you find the information contained in our website interesting and informative. One of my favourite quotes by Ralph Waldo Emerson is:

" Do not go where the path may lead,
go instead where there is no path and leave
a trail"

At Fisk Street Primary School we are making well defined, steady trails towards quality student learning through the implementation of new and diverse learning strategies, programs and policies, that are changing our school perception and indeed our academic results across the board. We have been privileged to do work with inspirational and renowned educational leader John Fleming and as a site committed to continuous improvement we practice the Fleming Explicit Teaching model. For parents considering education in Whyalla, we invite you to come to our school for a tour to see firsthand the learning happening in our classrooms.

Fisk Street Primary operates under the values of respect, honesty, doing your best and teamwork. These values underpin the expectations of students, staff and our school community. Literacy and numeracy are the two main foci with the school maintaining Literacy Secretariat recommendations of 300 minutes of explicit instruction. We are privileged to have a full time, highly dedicated and enthusiastic School Counsellor, who supports the student wellbeing of our climbing enrolments of 120 happy, eager and bright students. We have 6 energetic and committed classroom teachers across Reception to Year 7 with 2 highly motivated specialist teachers who cover Science, Physical Education and Italian. The teaching and leadership team at Fisk Street are a dynamic, friendly and positive group who are committed to student learning.

One of the highlights of Fisk Street Primary School are the dedicated and hard working School Support Officers and our Aboriginal and Community Education Officer (ACEO). These wonderful staff members offer targeted student support in learning programs, as well as, more recently, a range of lunchtime activities including art, craft, cooking and games which rotate weekly.

We welcome you to visit Fisk Street to share in the quality learning programs in action. Teachers and leaders from other sites are welcome to look at our Kaisen website (Our Staff Learning website!!) soon to be found at .....(watch this space)

Kindest Regards
